Homemade Reusable Baby Wipes

Homemade baby wipes

Ever try making your own baby wipes? It’s easy! Plus, these homemade baby wipes are reusable. Wait, wait! I know what you are thinking “Ew, reusable baby wipes? That’s nasty.”

It’s not nasty though! On the contrary, these homemade reusable baby wipes will save your baby’s bottom from nasty red rashes. Ouch!

They will also save you a lot of money.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather put some of that money in the baby’s piggy bank rather than continually invest in store bought baby wipes that may or may not contain weird ingredients.

Our children are precious! Let’s give them the best there is to offer.

So, with that being said, onto the method of making these simple homemade wipes!

Supplies Needed:

Reusable Baby Wipes (25 count)
Water
Container with lid
Aloe Vera (USA Aloe, this is REAL Aloe Vera!)
Drying Rack ((Made in USA) to air dry baby wipes after they have been cleaned in the laundry wash cycle)

plastic container, Aloe vera bottle, wipes and glass pitcher filled with water

Why Add Aloe Vera?

Aloe Vera contains vitamins and minerals. It is well known that it provides a soothing effect on skin. Aloe Vera is so gentle and promotes a healthy baby bottom! This is very good news for our babies!

It is surprising how much fake aloe is out in the markets today. Upgrade and get the good stuff, our children are gifts from God!

A little goes a long way, friends!

Why to Choose Homemade Reusable Baby Wipes Instead of Store Bought:

Simply put, it’s cleaner, healthier for your baby and way easier on the wallet!

Why use store-bought wipes when they lack the proper wetness, ingredients and end up piled in the trash almost instantly? Some of these store-bought wipes include fragrance which is not something you want to be slathering your child’s behind with on a regular basis, or at all!

Also, they go perfectly with cloth diapers!

Instructions:

First, find an old glass or plastic container that is big enough to hold at least 40 ounces of water.

Pretty much any container will do so don’t go out and buy anything special for this step. We use this cute container below, but as stated previously, mostly anything will work!

Once you have a container, pour 3 cups of water into it!

Now, stir in a generous tablespoon of aloe vera until solution is evenly dispersed.

Now fold each wipe in half and stack them into the container. Make sure each wipe has absorbed the solution before placing lid on top.

This recipe makes 25 wipes. Wipes can be stored in a room temperature environment in close proximity to cloth diapers for convenience. One wipe per change is usually adequate, but two might be necessary depending on the circumstances.

So, this recipe provides enough wipes to last at least 20 diaper changes! Yeah!

If you find you need more than 25 wipes, just double or triple the recipe.

How to Clean Homemade Reusable Baby Wipes:

Easy! Just throw the wipes in a wet bag until you’re ready to do a load of laundry. As has been noted above, these wipes go perfectly with cloth diapers and can be rinsed and washed together.

Steps:

  1. Throw dirty wipes into wet bag.
  2. When bag is full and you have a full load of laundry, empty wet bag into your washing machine. (Turn wet bag inside out and add into washing machine for a nice cleaning)
  3. Select rinse cycle.
  4. Once rinse cycle is complete, add your laundry detergent or laundry powder to the drum of your machine and wash on normal/casual, use the warm water setting. We use Molly’s suds because it is gentle on baby’s sensitive skin.
  5. Whenever the wash cycle completes, take the wipes out and hang them to dry on a drying rack. It’s best practice to air dry wipes and cloth diapers outside in the sun. Harness the power of the sun’s natural disinfectant properties.

In our experience, the sunshine has naturally “bleached” the wipes and diapers, making them vibrant white with a squeaky-clean appearance.

If weather does not permit outdoor drying, a sunroom or window space will work just fine. If this is not an option, the dryer works just as well.

I have shared that secret even with moms who don’t cloth diaper, because when that newborn has a blow out in that adorable outfit, most consider it “done for.” Resourceful post and great tips!
